It’s been nearly 42 years since Pakistan got split giving birth to Bangladesh. But just as the oppressive shadow of their past perpetually hangs over India and Pakistan 65 years after their violent separation, the ghost of the 1971 catastrophe continues to haunt Bangladesh and Pakistan.
In Pakistan, most people would rather forget that dark phase in the nation’s history. In Bangladesh though, the past is ever present.
The Year 1971 is in the spotlight these days once again in Bangladesh with the familiar accusations and counteraccusations of war crimes and political vendetta flying thick and fast. Indeed, every time Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League comes to power, this game is played out again and again with the regime going after its opponents with a new zeal. 1. Judge Nasim designs Prosecution witness testimony to fit into his pre-prepared judgment

In this conversation, Nizamul Hoque Nasim discusses how he is essentially calling up witnesses for the prosecution. After witness Sultana Kamal’s deposition in the Golam Azam case, he confides in activist Ahmed Ziauddin and praises Kamal’s cross-examination as ‘fist class’. As a result, he says there is no need for another planned witness: “Nothing more is required. We now only need seizure list witnesses”. Nasim and Ziauddin also discuss the framework of another witness, retired General Shafiullah. They agree that particular testimony he will give will “help us in our judgment write-up.”

আওয়ামী জাহেলিয়াতের বিরুদ্ধে জামায়াতের হরতাল সফল হোক

‘ডিসেম্বরে হরতালের কথা কি প্রধানমন্ত্রী ভুলে গেছেন? আমাদের আন্দোলন  এ দেশের মানুষের ভোট ও ভাতের অধিকার আদায়রে জন্য। আর ডিসেম্বর হলো আন্দোলন- সংগ্রামের মাস। আর এ মাসেই আন্দোলন সফল করা হবে। রাজনৈতিক  হীন উদ্দেশ্য চরিতার্থ করতেই স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী জামায়াতের সমাবেশ নিয়ে মিথ্যাচার করছেন। সমাবেশের জন্য জামায়াত ২৯ তারিখ অনুমতি চাইলেও তিনি বলেছেন অনুমতি চাওয়া হয়নি। আসলে সমাবেশটি বানচালের  উদ্দেশ্যেই স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী এ ধরনের মিথ্যাচার করছেন।”-বিএনপির ভারপ্রাপ্ত মহাসচিব মির্জা ফখরুল ইসলাম আলমগীর।

“স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী যে ভাষায় কথা বলছেন, তা গণতন্ত্রের ভাষা নয়। তার ভাষা বাকশালী ভাষাকেও হার মানিয়েছে। বর্তমান সরকার গণতন্ত্রের লেবাসে বাকশালী কায়দায় দেশ চালাচ্ছে। জামায়াত একটি নিবন্ধিত রাজনৈতিক দল। সভা-সমাবেশ করা তাদের গণতান্ত্রিক অধিকার। কিন্তু স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী ঘোষণা দিয়েছেন এ সমাবেশ করতে দেয়া হবে না। অন্যদিকে বিএনপি রাজপথ অবরোধের মতো শান্তিপূর্ণ কর্মসূচি ঘোষণা করেছে। স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী একে বেআইনি বলে প্রতিহত করার ঘোষণা দিয়েছেন। সুতরাং এ সরকারকে গণতান্ত্রিক সরকার বলা যায় না।” –বিএনপির স্থায়ী কমিটির সদস্য ড. খন্দকার মোশাররফ হোসেন।

আওয়ামী লগ বুঝতে পেরেছে গণতন্ত্রের মুখোশ পরে থাকলে তাদের পক্ষে আর টিকে থাকা সম্ভব নয়। তাই শুরু হয়েছে প্রেত সাধনা, শুরু হয়েছে পুরণো কফিন খুলে বাকশালের ভুতকে জাতির ঘাড়ে চাপিয়ে দেয়ার পায়তারা। কারণ ইতোমধ্যেই আওয়ামীলীগের সাধারণ সম্পাদক সৈয়দ আশরাফ স্বীকার করেছেন জামায়াত দমনে পুলিশ প্রশাসন ব্যর্থ। না, প্রকৃতপক্ষে পুলিশ প্রশাসন ব্যর্থ নয়, বরং তারা রাজনৈতিক আবহাওয়ার পূর্ভাভাস সঠিকভাবে বিশ্লেষণ করতে সফল হয়েছে। তারা বুঝতে পেরেছে আওয়ামী জাহেলিয়াত ভেদ করে সোনালী সূর্য উঁকি মারছে আকাশে। তারা বুঝতে পেরেছে জামায়াত-শিবির পুলিশ প্রশাসনের শত্রু নয় বরং তাদেরকে বাকশালী সরকার সুকৌশলে রাজনৈতিক উদ্দেশ্যে জামায়াত-শিবির নিধনে মাঠে নামাচ্ছে। ফলে প্রশাসনে অস্থিরতার সৃষ্টি হয়েছে, বেকে বসা শুরু করেছেন মাঠপর্যায় থেকে শুরু করে উচ্চপদের অনেকেই। ফলে শেষ চেষ্টা হিসেবে বর্তমান আইজিপিকে সরিয়ে পদলেহী কাউকে পদোন্নতি দেয়ার চিন্তা চলছে। পাশাপাশি পুলিশ বাহিনীকে বাদ দিয়ে আওয়ামী লীগ বাকশালের পুরনো পথেই হোচট খাওয়ার জন্য লম্ফঝম্ফ শুরু করেছে।

আওয়ামী লীগের সর্বশেষ আশ্রয়স্থল তাদের ভারতমাতা। আর তাই পুলিশের উপর আস্থা হারিয়ে তৃতীয় শ্রেণীর মাস্তান স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী ভারত পাড়ি দিচ্ছেন। ভারতের হায়দরাবাদে অবস্থিত জাতীয় পুলিশ অ্যাকাডেমিতে প্রতিশ্রুত পুলিশ প্রশিক্ষণের নাম করে পূর্বের কিলিং মেশিন “ক্রুসেডার হান্ড্রেড“-এর মতো  আবারো যুবলীগ ছাত্রলীগকে প্রশিক্ষণের জন্য ভারতে পাঠানোর প্রক্রিয়া শুরু করছে। অপরদিকে ছাত্রলীগকে বাঁশের লাঠি নিয়ে জামাত-শিবিরমুক্ত দেশ গড়ার নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন আওয়ামী লীগের যুগ্ম সাধারণ সম্পাদক মাহবুব উল আলম হানিফ। উদ্দেশ্য একটাই গুম-খুন-অপহরণ-সন্ত্রাসের মাধ্যমে বাংলাদেশে আওয়ামী জাহেলিয়াতের চীরস্থায়ী বন্দোবস্ত করা। আর শিশুরা বাদে সকলেই জানে তীব্র প্রসব বেদনার পরেই মায়ের মুখে হাসি ফোটে। বাংলাদেশের প্রসব বেদনা শুরু হয়ে গেছে। হয় স্বাভাবিকভাবে বাংলার মুখে হাসি ফুটবে নয়তো সিজার করে নিরাপদ করা হবে মা ও সন্তানের প্রাণ।

আগামী কাল আওয়ামী জাহেলিয়াতের বিরুদ্ধে জামায়াতের দেশব্যাপী সকাল সন্ধ্যা হরতাল হবে বাংলার মুখে হাসি ফোটানোর প্রথম প্রয়াস।

দ্বীন নিয়ে প্রশ্ন করা মানা, ফেরেশতাদের মুখ বন্ধ করবে কিভাকে?

যারা ঈমানদার, বিশ্বাস স্থাপন করেছে আল্লাহর উপর, আল্লাহকেই কেবল তাদের ইলাহ ও রব বলে স্বীকার করে নিয়েছে, তারা জানে, সকল প্রাণীকেই মৃত্যুর স্বাদ গ্রহণ করবে হবে, অতপর পৃথিবীতে তার যাবতীয় ক্রিয়াকর্মের পুঙ্খানুপুঙ্খ হিসাব দিতে হবে এবং কর্মফল অনুযায়ী পরিশেষে জান্নাত কিংবা জাহান্নামে প্রবেশ করতে হবে। তারা এও জানে যে মৃত্যুর পরে প্রথমেই ফেরেশতাদের কাছে মৌখিক পরীক্ষার মুখোমুখি হতে হবে। মাত্র ৩টি প্রশ্নের জবাবের উপর ভিত্তি করে প্রাথমিকভাবে তার জন্য নির্ধারিত হবে শান্তি বা শাস্তির ব্যবস্থা। প্রশ্ন ৩টি হলো : ১) তোমার রব কে? ২) তোমার  দ্বীন কি? ৩) তোমার রাসূল (সা:) কে? (আবু দাউদ, ৪৭৩৫)। যারা দূনিয়ায় তাওহীন, রিসালাত ও আখেরাতে বিশ্বাস স্থাপন করে তদনুযায়ী সৎ কর্ম করেছে, অন্যায় থেকে বিরত থেকেছে, তাগুতের বিরুদ্ধে ছিল যাদের সুস্পষ্ট অবস্থান, তারা খুব সহজেই প্রশ্নগুলোর সঠিক উত্তর দিয়ে শান্তির আবাসস্থলে যায়গা করে নেবে। আর যারা ঈমানের দাবী করা সত্ত্বেও বুঝে কিংবা না বুঝে দূনিয়ায় খোদাদ্রোহী তাগুতি শক্তির পক্ষে কাজ করেছে, দ্বীন কায়েমের পরিবর্তে মানবরচিত মতবাদ প্রতিষ্ঠায় সংগ্রাম করেছে, তারা প্রশ্ন ৩টির সঠিক জবাব দিতে ব্যর্থ হবে, নিক্ষিপ্ত হবে অগ্নিকুন্ডে। প্রকৃতপক্ষে ঈমানের দাবীদার হওয়া সত্ত্বেও অধিকাংশ অনেক আদম সন্তানকে বিপদে পড়তে হবে শুধুমাত্র অজ্ঞতার জন্য। Continue reading “দ্বীন নিয়ে প্রশ্ন করা মানা, ফেরেশতাদের মুখ বন্ধ করবে কিভাকে?”

A former Bangladeshi opposition politician, Ghulam Azam, is on trial for crimes against humanity committed more than 40 years ago.

The 89-year-old Azam cannot walk, cannot see, nor can he really hear. Yet he has 10 armed police officers watching him at all times.

But as Al Jazeera’s Nicolas Haque reports from Dhaka, Azam is like no other detainee: up until 2000, he was the head of the Islamist party, the Jamaat-I Islami.

The country’s war crimes tribunal believes he collaborated with Pakistan’s army, orchestrating mass killings during Bangladesh’s 1971 war of independence from Pakistan.

Officials say three million people died in the nine-month-long conflict.

Sheikh Hasina Wajed, the Bangladeshi prime minister, has made the prosecution of war criminals part of her election manifesto. Her government is determined to fulfil its pledge.

A recent hearing by the UN working group on arbitrary detentions concluded the detention of Azam and others as arbitrary and in breach of international law.

However, Shaufiq Ahmed, the Bangladesh law minister, rejects the accusation. “This tribunal is not an international war crimes tribunal, this is a domestic tribunal,” he said.

“Those who have been arrested are facing trial, so it’s not an illegal detention.”

If found guilty Azam will face the death penalty. Whatever the decision the court comes to, it will have dramatic consequences. It may bring justice to many but at the cost of throwing Bangladesh into further political instability.

ক্রিকেট নিয়ে উন্মাদনা বিশ্বের যে কোন দেশের চেয়ে বাংলাদেশে বেশী, এমনকি ভারতের চেয়েও। কোটি কোটি দর্শক শ্রোতা দিনরাত ইশ্বর-ভগবান-আল্লাহর নাম জপে যাচ্ছে প্রিয় দলের সাফল্য কামনায়। তবে ক্রিকেটের মতো খেলার প্রতি আল্লাহর আদৌ কোন আগ্রহ নেই বলে বরাবরই স্বাভাবিক নিয়মে যারা ভালো খেলে তারাই জিতে যায়। আর আল্লাহ যদি ক্রিকেট প্রেমীদের প্রার্থনায় সাড়া দিতেন তবে সব সময়ই ভারতেরই জয় হতো, সোয়া’শ কোটি ভক্তের দল বলে কথা। আসলে বিশ্বের সব সৃষ্টিকেই আল্লাহ স্বাভাবিক নিয়মে চলার সুযোগ দেন যতক্ষণ না বিশেষ কোন পরিস্থিতির সৃষ্টি হয়। Continue reading “গর্জে ওঠো রয়েল বেঙ্গল টাইগারের দল! গর্জে ওঠো বাংলাদেশ!!”

নিত্য প্রয়োজনীয় পণ্যের দাম বাড়ছেই

বিশ্ববাজারে চালের দাম কমতে থাকলেও বাংলাদেশে লাগামহীন দামবৃদ্ধি অব্যাহত রয়েছে। দাম বাড়ছে ডাল, তেল, মরিচ, চিনি, আটাসহ নিত্যপ্রয়োজনীয় দ্রব্যের। কমছে সাধারণ মানুষের আয় পাল্লাদিয়ে কমছে ক্রয় ক্ষমতা। নিম্নবিত্তের মানুষের পাশাপাশি মধ্যবিত্তের ভদ্রলোকেরাও লাজ-শরমের মাথা খেয়ে, “মিডলক্লাস সেন্টিমেন্ট”কে ছুড়ে ফেলে প্রাণ বাঁচাতে দাড়াচ্ছেন ওএমএসের লাইনে। দ্রব্যমূল্যসহ অনেককিছুই সরকারের হাতে নেই অকপটে এমন কথা স্বীকারও করেছেন আওয়ামী লীগের উপদেষ্টামণ্ডলীর সদস্য ও সাবেক খাদ্যমন্ত্রী আমির হোসেন আমু। Continue reading “নিত্য প্রয়োজনীয় পণ্যের দাম বাড়ছেই”
